Protect private information in email

Calculator inputs are separate from email communications. An email contains the address, subject, message, attachments, and technical information that you choose to send, and it may be processed by your email provider and the receiving email service.

Email is not a secure channel for clinical information. Do not send patient names, dates of birth, detailed addresses, telephone numbers, patient contact details other than the sender's email address, medical-record numbers, insurance numbers, government identifiers, unredacted case screenshots, or other information that could identify a patient or another person. Remove identifying information from every screenshot before attaching it.

Read the Privacy Policy for information about calculator inputs, email communications, request logs, and third-party services.

What to include in your message

Calculation or medical-content corrections

Use this route to report a suspected formula, coefficient, threshold, unit, input-definition, source, version, or explanation problem.

When possible, include:

  • calculator name and page URL;
  • the formula, coefficient, threshold, unit, input definition, result explanation, or source at issue;
  • non-identifying inputs and units, the actual result, and the expected result or wording;
  • an original paper, current guideline, official policy, or other authoritative source supporting the correction, if available.

Do not include patient-identifying information. A supporting source is helpful but not required. Learn how reports are checked in the Sources and Review Process.

  • page URL and steps to reproduce;
  • expected and actual behavior;
  • browser, device, and operating system;
  • whether you used a keyboard, screen reader, or browser zoom;
  • a redacted screenshot, if useful.

When possible, include:

  • calculator or scoring-system name;
  • original paper or official source and current version;
  • intended population, required inputs, and expected output;
  • why an existing calculator does not answer the task;
