11 Hematology Calculators – Counts, Ratios, Iron & Anemia

Hematology calculators cover derived absolute leukocyte counts, red-cell and iron-related indices, CBC-derived inflammatory ratios, and a historical age-adjusted ESR reference estimate.

Use values from the same CBC, specimen, or defined assessment time point and distinguish percentages from absolute counts. Similar-looking ratios have different numerators, denominators, and evidence boundaries.

Which tool fits this task?

Compare the purpose, inputs, and returned measure before opening a calculator. These distinctions describe tool scope; they do not make a diagnosis or choose treatment.

Absolute leukocyte counts

These calculations derive different absolute cell lines from a CBC and differential percentage.

Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC) Calculator

Use when
Calculate absolute neutrophil count from WBC and reported mature neutrophils plus bands.
Inputs
Same-CBC WBC, segmented/mature neutrophils, and separately reported bands.
Returns
ANC in the supported count units.
Distinction
Bands are a distinct input path; the result is not an infection diagnosis or treatment trigger.

Absolute Monocyte Count Calculator

Use when
Calculate absolute monocyte count from total WBC and monocyte percentage.
Inputs
Same-CBC WBC and reported monocyte percentage.
Returns
AMC in the supported count units.
Distinction
It is a derived count and not a malignancy or infection classification.

Absolute Eosinophil Count Calculator

Use when
Calculate absolute eosinophil count from total WBC and eosinophil percentage.
Inputs
Same-CBC WBC and reported eosinophil percentage.
Returns
AEC in the supported count units.
Distinction
It is a derived count and not an allergy, parasitic, or treatment diagnosis.

CBC-derived ratios

Keep the numerator, denominator, and same-assessment count units explicit for each derived index.

Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) Calculator

Use when
Calculate NLR from matched absolute counts or the supported percentage mode.
Inputs
Paired neutrophil and lymphocyte values in the selected mode.
Returns
A unitless NLR.
Distinction
NLR is nonspecific and is not interchangeable with PLR, LMR, or SII.

Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio Calculator

Use when
Calculate PLR from matched absolute platelet and lymphocyte counts.
Inputs
Paired platelet and lymphocyte counts with supported unit normalization.
Returns
A unitless PLR.
Distinction
It is a derived ratio without a universal diagnostic or prognostic category.

Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio Calculator

Use when
Calculate LMR from same-CBC absolute lymphocyte and monocyte counts.
Inputs
Paired absolute lymphocyte and monocyte counts.
Returns
A unitless LMR.
Distinction
LMR uses different cells from NLR and PLR and does not determine a diagnosis.

Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Calculator

Use when
Calculate SII from matched absolute platelet, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts.
Inputs
Paired absolute platelet, neutrophil, and lymphocyte counts.
Returns
A unitless SII.
Distinction
SII is a composite research index, not a universal inflammatory or treatment threshold.

Red-cell and iron calculations

These tools address different red-cell production, microcytosis, or iron-study questions.

Historical Adult Reticulocyte Production Index (RPI) Calculator

Use when
Calculate the historical adult RPI from reticulocyte percentage and hematocrit.
Inputs
RET%, paired hematocrit, and the source-specific maturation band.
Returns
A historical RPI value.
Distinction
RPI is not a complete anemia diagnosis or transfusion recommendation.

Mentzer Index Calculator for Microcytosis

Use when
Calculate the historical Mentzer Index from same-CBC MCV and RBC count.
Inputs
MCV and RBC count from the same CBC.
Returns
A unitless Mentzer Index.
Distinction
It is a non-diagnostic microcytosis screening aid and not a hemoglobinopathy diagnosis.

Transferrin Saturation Calculator (TSAT)

Use when
Calculate TSAT from same-assessment serum iron and laboratory-reported TIBC.
Inputs
Serum iron and TIBC with supported unit normalization.
Returns
Transferrin saturation as a percentage.
Distinction
It is laboratory arithmetic and does not select iron therapy or establish an etiology.

Choose a calculator by task

Use the task groups below to find the calculator whose formula, intended population, required measurements, and purpose match the task.

Absolute leukocyte counts

Derive ANC, absolute monocyte count, or absolute eosinophil count from compatible total and differential blood-count inputs.

Select historical RPI, Mentzer arithmetic, or transferrin saturation according to the required red-cell or iron-study inputs and units.

CBC-derived inflammatory ratios

Calculate NLR, PLR, LMR, or SII only from compatible same-assessment absolute counts or the explicitly supported differential mode.

ESR reference estimate

Use the historical Miller-rule estimate only as a static age- and formula-specific ESR reference calculation.

Match the formula to the specimen and derived measure

  • Use same-CBC or same-assessment values and keep absolute counts distinct from differential percentages.
  • Choose the ratio whose defined numerator, denominator, and units match the laboratory question; NLR, PLR, LMR, and SII are not interchangeable.
  • Treat Mentzer, RPI, transferrin saturation, and the historical ESR rule according to their distinct formulas and specimen requirements.

Important limits

  • CBC-derived inflammatory ratios are nonspecific and do not establish infection, inflammation, malignancy, or prognosis.
  • Mentzer Index, RPI, iron arithmetic, and historical ESR estimates cannot establish a hematologic diagnosis on their own.
  • These tools do not recommend transfusion, antibiotics, iron, referral, or another treatment.
