Important limits
- A single NLR cannot diagnose or exclude infection, inflammation, sepsis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or a hematologic disorder.
- Interpret the original CBC, symptoms, timing, trends, laboratory method, and the applicable clinical pathway.
- Acute illness, stress, exercise, smoking, corticosteroids and other medicines, malignancy, and hematologic treatment may change either component.
- Pediatric reference distributions vary with age, and pregnancy NLR can vary across gestation. Those studies remain population- and method-specific; this page does not apply a pediatric, pregnancy, or adult dynamic range to a submitted result.
- This page does not select antibiotics, steroids, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, testing, admission, or another treatment.

NLR is the neutrophil value divided by the lymphocyte value from matched CBC differential results. The exact submitted decimals are used before the visible quotient is rounded.
Yes. Enter both matched absolute counts in one shared unit. The common laboratory values ×10³/µL and ×10⁹/L are numerically equivalent, but the selected report unit is recorded explicitly.
Yes, when both percentages come from the same differential and therefore share the same whole-white-cell denominator.
No. A count and a percentage are different reporting bases. Mixing them produces a quotient with no valid NLR meaning.
Yes. Collection timing, acute change, and differential method matter, so values from different samples must not be combined.
No. Published population distributions vary with age, sex, population selection, geography, and laboratory method. The static research examples on this page do not classify a submitted result.

Yes. A true zero numerator produces an NLR of zero. A zero lymphocyte denominator is invalid because division by zero is undefined.
Not automatically. The arithmetic is the same, but population distributions and clinical interpretation differ in children, pregnancy, and other special populations.
